2017 Ford F-150 recalls

Instrument cluster may lose power in cold

Crash risk

In cold weather, the instrument cluster can lose power after the car starts, so gauges like the gear position indicator and warning lights may not light up. Without them, a driver may not know what gear the car is in or see a warning, which raises the risk of a crash or injury.

Fix: The dealer will update the instrument panel cluster software free of charge.

Recall 26V370000 · Jun 2026

Transmission may unexpectedly downshift to second

Crash risk

A loss of signal between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module can make the transmission suddenly drop into second gear. This can cause a loss of vehicle control and increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: The dealer will update the powertrain control module software at no cost to you.

Recall 26V237000 · Apr 2026

Power assist, Master cylinder

The brake master cylinder may allow brake fluid to leak from the front wheel circuit into the brake booster. A brake fluid leak can cause reduced brake function and extend the distance required to stop, increasing the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will replace the brake master cylinder. If the master cylinder is leaking, the brake booster will also be replaced.

Recall 25V236000 · Apr 2025

Master cylinder, Power assist

5L Ecoboost engines. The brake master cylinder may allow brake fluid to leak from the front wheel circuit into the brake booster. A loss of brake fluid may result in a change in brake pedal travel, increased pedal effort and reduced front brake function, requiring greater effort and distance to stop the vehicle. These conditions can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Dealers will replace the brake master cylinder. If the master cylinder is leaking, the brake booster will also be replaced.

Recall 22V150000 · Mar 2022

Ball joint may break, affecting wheel control

Crash risk

Some ball joints were installed with a misaligned dust boot and are missing an alignment hole and warning tag, so the joint may be improperly aligned. This can cause the ball joint stud to break, which can compromise front wheel control and increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: The dealer will inspect the ball joint and replace it if needed, free of charge.

Recall 21E027000 · Apr 2021

Power assist, Master cylinder

5L Ecoboost engines. The brake master cylinder may leak brake fluid into the brake booster. A loss of brake fluid may result in a change in brake pedal travel and feel, increased pedal effort and reduced front brake function, possibly requiring greater effort and distance to stop the vehicle. These conditions can increase the risk of a crash.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake master cylinder and inspect the brake booster, replacing it as necessary, free of charge.

Electrical

Fire risk

During the previous repair, the block heater cable's splice connector may have been damaged. A damaged cable could cause a resistive short, increasing the risk of overheated or melted wiring, increasing the risk of a fire.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will disable the engine block heater from being used.

Recall 19V278000 · Apr 2019

Block heater cable can overheat and cause fire

Fire risk

Water and contaminants can enter the block heater cable's splice connector, causing corrosion. When the heater is plugged in, the corrosion can create a resistive short that overheats and melts wiring, which can start a fire.

Fix: The dealer will disable the block heater cable free of charge now, and once parts are available, will replace the cable free of charge.

Recall 18V894000 · Dec 2018

Seat belt pretensioner sparks could ignite interior

Fire risk

In a crash that triggers a front seat belt pretensioner, the sparks it produces can ignite nearby carpeting or insulation in the B-pillar area. This could start a fire inside the vehicle.

Fix: The dealer will remove the B-pillar insulation and wiring harness tape and install heat resistant tape, free of charge.

Recall 18V568000 · Aug 2018

Automatic transmission

A roll pin may not have been installed in the transmission, potentially causing a loss of the "Park" function. Despite the transmission shift lever being placed in 'Park' and the instrument panel display indicating 'Park,' the vehicle may roll away after it has been exited if the parking brake has not been applied, increasing the risk of injury or a crash.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the transmission to make sure it has the roll pin, installing one if it is missing, free of charge.

Recall 18V213000 · Apr 2018

Shift linkage pin can detach from transmission

Crash risk

A pin connecting the shift linkage to the transmission can come out, so the car may not move in the gear the driver selects, or may roll even when set to Park if the parking brake is not applied. Either situation raises the risk of a crash.

Fix: A dealer will replace the roll pin with an updated part free of charge, and Ford will notify owners beginning around December 2017.

Recall 17V671000 · Oct 2017

Door can open while driving

Injury risk

A bent cable or a latch frozen by water can let a door pop open while the car is moving, even though it looks closed. An open door while driving raises the risk of injury.

Fix: The dealer will inspect and repair the door latch cables if needed and install water shields over the door latches, free of charge.

Recall 17V652000 · Oct 2017

Anchorage

The seat belt anchor may not be adequately welded to the seat cushion frame. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages," and 207, "Seating Systems." The seat belt buckle weld may fail, preventing the occupants from being properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing the risk of injury.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will replace the front passenger manual seat track, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin November 6, 2017.

Recall 17V599000 · Sep 2017

Passenger air bag inflator may rupture

Injury risk

The inflator inside the passenger front air bag can burst during a crash. Metal fragments could then strike occupants and cause serious injury or death.

Fix: Dealers will replace the passenger front air bag module free of charge.

Recall 17V529000 · Aug 2017

Rear seat belt buckle may detach

Injury risk

The left rear inflatable seat belt buckle may not be firmly attached to its mounting bracket. If it separates, a rear passenger may not be properly restrained, which raises the risk of injury in a crash.

Fix: The dealer will inspect the seat belt assembly and replace the attaching rivet if needed, free of charge.

Recall 17V526000 · Aug 2017

Door, Latch

These accessory door handle covers may cause the doors to unlatch in a side impact collision. As such, these vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 206, "Door Locks and Door Retention Components." If the doors unlatch and open in a side impact collision, the occupants have an increased risk of injury.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will remove the accessory covers and refund the purchase price. Ford's number for the recall is 17C09.

Recall 17V331000 · May 2017

Seat back may fail to restrain occupant in crash

Injury risk

The welds on the seat back frame may be too weak, so in a crash the seat may not properly hold the occupant. This raises the risk of injury because the seat and head restraint may not meet federal safety standards.

Fix: The dealer will inspect the seat back frame and replace it if needed, at no cost to you.

Recall 17V332000 · May 2017

Instrument cluster / panel, Gear position indication (PRNDL)

In these vehicles, the instrument cluster may lose power after the initial vehicle start-up in cold ambient temperatures. Several gauges, including the transmission gear position indicator, may not illuminate. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicles Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 102, "Transmission shift position sequence, starter interlock, and transmission braking effect." If the transmission gear position indicator fails to illuminate, the driver may be unable to tell the transmission shift position, increasing the risk of a crash or injury from unintended vehicle movement.

Fix: Ford will notify owners, and dealers will reprogram the instrument cluster, free of charge.
